Tata Chemicals Magadi wins the Millennium Development Goals Award for promoting access to universal education

Tata Chemicals Magadi recently won the Millennium Development Goals Award for promoting access to universal education. The award was presented by the Kenyan Ministry of State for Planning, National Development and Vision 2030. The Millennium Development Goals are a set of eight social development targets set by the United Nations that are to be attained by the year 2015.

The Millennium Development Goals Award ceremony is an annual celebration of the achievements of the Kenyan government, development partners, private sector members, NGOs and individuals across the country. The objective is to participate in the set United Nations Millenium Development Goals by recognising, awarding and celebrating exemplary performers and outstanding contributions under each Millennium Development Goals trust funds. The awards are in partnership with the Government of Kenya, the embassy of Finland, Africa Youth Trust and the United Nations Development Programme, amongst others.

The award was received at a time when Tata Chemicals Magadi continues to actively support education through the Magadi Soda Foundation. Tata Chemicals Magadi is also implementing the Social Responsibility 2600 standard — one of the newest global standards — as one of the six Kenyan pilot organisations.
